If you live in Towson, you know what it’s like to drive here. The Beltway is always crowded. York Road backs up at rush hour. And the area around Towson University and the courthouse can turn into a parking lot during the middle of the day.
You need car insurance that fits that reality. Not a generic policy from a company that doesn’t understand your commute. Not an agent who has never sat in Towson traffic.
GEBCO Insurance has helped over 500,000 Maryland drivers find affordable car insurance since 1971. We don’t have a physical office in Towson, but we serve drivers here every single day. Our agents know Towson’s driving conditions because we live and work here.
We understand what Towson drivers need. And we know how to get you the coverage you want at a price you can afford.

Why Towson Drivers Choose GEBCO Insurance
We Know Maryland Roads Inside and Out
Towson sits right in the middle of some of Maryland’s busiest driving routes. You’ve got I-695 running nearby. I-83 is just to the west. York Road cuts straight through town. And Dulaney Valley Road carries thousands of drivers every day.
The average commute time in Towson is about 25 minutes. That’s a lot of time behind the wheel. About 61% of Towson workers drive alone to work every morning. That means thousands of cars on the road, thousands of chances for something to go wrong.
Heavy traffic on the Beltway. Narrow streets around the university. Congestion near the Towson Town Center mall. Students crossing roads near campus. It all adds up.
We understand what Towson drivers deal with because we do, too. Our agents know this area. We know the problem intersections and where accidents happen most often. And we know how to make sure you’re covered when you’re driving on these roads.
We Work With Drivers Who’ve Been Turned Down Elsewhere
Maybe you have a few tickets on your record or had a lapse in coverage because you lost your job or forgot to make a payment. Maybe your last insurance company dropped you after an accident.
Life happens, but the good news is that doesn’t mean you can’t get good coverage.
GEBCO is an authorized provider for the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund, which most people still call MAIF. MAIF was created in 1972 to help Maryland drivers who can’t get coverage from traditional insurers. If you’ve been turned down by two private insurance companies, you probably qualify.
But here’s something most people don’t know. MAIF isn’t just for drivers with bad records. We also help drivers with clean records find affordable MAIF coverage. Sometimes it’s about price. Sometimes it’s about wanting a straightforward policy without the fine print.
Quick eligibility check:
- Have other insurers turned you down?
- Did your previous insurance company drop you?
- Do you have tickets or accidents on your record?
- Are you just looking for a better rate?
Call us. We’ll check your options and tell you what you qualify for.
We Offer a Path to Lower Rates
This is what makes GEBCO different from other agencies. We don’t just sign you up and forget about you.
Our Path to Lower Rates program is simple. Make your payments on time. Stay ticket-free and accident-free for one year. That’s it. You’ll qualify for rates up to 35% lower.
No tricks or hidden conditions. We want to reward you for getting back on track and staying there.
We Shop Multiple Carriers So You Don’t Have To
GEBCO is an independent insurance agency. That means we don’t work for just one company. We represent Progressive, GEICO, National General, and Maryland Auto Insurance.
When you call us for a quote, we check rates across all those carriers. We compare coverage options. We look for discounts you qualify for. Then we present you with the best option.
You don’t have to call five different companies. You don’t have to fill out multiple online forms. We do the work. You get the best rate.
And because insurance rates are set by the carriers themselves, you don’t pay extra to use an agent. You get the same rate you’d get if you buy direct. But you also get a local agent who knows you and can help when you need it.
What Towson Drivers Need to Know About Coverage
Maryland’s Minimum Insurance Requirements
Maryland law requires 30/60/15 liability coverage. That means:
- $30,000 for bodily injury per person
- $60,000 for bodily injury per accident
- $15,000 for property damage per accident
This is the minimum you need to register and drive a vehicle in Maryland.
But minimum coverage may not be enough. If you cause a serious accident and the damages exceed your limits, you could be personally responsible for the rest. That’s why many drivers choose higher limits.
Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Maryland also requires uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. This protects you if you’re in an accident with a driver who has no insurance or not enough insurance.
About 14% of Maryland drivers are uninsured. That’s one out of every seven cars on the road. If one of those drivers hits you, your UM/UIM coverage pays for your injuries and damages.
Maryland requires this coverage, and you can’t waive it. But it usually costs less than $100 per year, which is a small price for the protection it provides.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
PIP covers medical expenses and lost wages for you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of who caused it. Maryland requires at least $2,500 in PIP coverage on every policy.
You can waive PIP in writing if you have other health coverage. But before you do, think about it carefully. PIP is no-fault coverage. It pays quickly, without waiting for a liability decision or fighting with another insurance company.
Comprehensive and Collision Coverage
If you have a car loan or lease, your lender will require comprehensive and collision coverage. These cover damage to your own vehicle.
Comprehensive covers theft, vandalism, weather damage, fire, and collisions with animals. Collision covers damage from hitting another car or object, like a tree or guardrail.
If your car is older and paid off, you may want to drop these coverages to save money. But think about whether you could afford to replace your car if something happened. If not, it’s worth keeping full coverage.
Rental Reimbursement and Roadside Assistance
These are optional add-ons that can save you headaches.
Rental reimbursement pays for a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired after a covered claim. Roadside assistance covers towing, jump-starts, lockout help, and fuel delivery.
Both are relatively inexpensive. And both can be lifesavers when you’re stranded on the side of the Beltway.
Insurance for Towson’s Different Drivers
Towson University Students
If you’re a student at TU, you need coverage that fits a student budget. You might be on your parents’ policy. You might need your own policy. Either way, we can help.
Students often qualify for discounts, such as good student discounts, away-at-school discounts, and multi-car discounts if you’re on a family policy. Call us, and we’ll check what you qualify for.
Daily Commuters
If you drive to work every day, you need reliable coverage. You’re on the road a lot. That means more exposure to accidents, more miles driven, and more risk.
But it also means you might qualify for low-mileage discounts if you don’t drive that far. Or you might benefit from usage-based insurance programs that track your driving and reward safe habits. Ask us about these options.
High-Risk Drivers
If other companies have turned you down, we can help. We’re specialists in getting coverage for drivers other companies won’t touch.
We work with National General, which specializes in non-standard insurance. And we’re an authorized MAIF provider. No matter what’s on your record, we can likely find you coverage.
Families With Teen Drivers
Adding a teen driver to your policy can cost a lot. But there are ways to save.
Students with good grades can qualify for discounts. Completing a driver’s education course can help. Adding your teen to a multi-car policy is usually cheaper than getting them their own policy.
We’ve helped countless families in Maryland insure their teen drivers. We know how to do it without breaking the bank.
Seniors and Retirees
If you’re retired and driving less, you might qualify for low-mileage discounts. If you’ve taken a defensive driving course, you may also qualify for a discount.
And if you’re over 50, you might qualify for age-based discounts with some carriers. Call us, and we’ll check.

Flexible Payment Options That Fit Your Budget
Car insurance costs money. We understand that.
We offer payment plans designed to fit different budgets. Many of our policies offer 18% down and monthly installments. You can also pay in full for the year and save money with a paid-in-full discount.
Set up autopay, and you’ll never miss a due date. Many carriers offer a discount just for using autopay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need car insurance in Towson?
Yes. Maryland law requires all drivers to carry liability insurance. You cannot register a vehicle in Maryland without proof of insurance. And if you’re caught driving without coverage, you face fines, license suspension, and registration suspension.
What happens if I let my insurance lapse in Maryland?
The Maryland MVA monitors insurance coverage electronically. If you have a lapse in coverage, you’ll receive a Notice of Non-Compliance. Your registration could be suspended. You could face uninsured motorist penalty fees.
If you’re between policies, call us right away. We can’t cover the lapse period, but we can issue a new policy to stop the finable period.
How do I know if I qualify for MAIF?
You qualify for MAIF if you live in Maryland with a valid license or vehicle registration and two private insurance companies have turned you down. You also qualify if a private insurer canceled or refused to renew your policy. You can’t owe MAIF any unpaid premiums from a previous policy.
Can I switch from MAIF to a private insurer later?
Yes. Many drivers use MAIF as a temporary solution. Once you’ve driven without incidents for a few years, you can switch to a standard carrier. We monitor this for our customers and let you know when better options become available.
Does GEBCO charge extra for using an agent?
No. The carrier sets insurance rates, not the agency. You pay the same premium whether you buy directly from the company or through us. But with us, you also get a local agent to help with billing questions, policy changes, and claims.
How do I file a claim if I have a policy through GEBCO?
You can file a claim directly with your carrier online, by phone, or through their app. Or you can call our office, and we’ll help guide you through the process. We’re here to help, even after the sale.
